How it Works
The Declaración de la Renta is the annual process through which Spanish taxpayers settle their IRPF for the previous tax year. Our simulator helps you estimate the outcome before filing, calculating whether you owe tax or are due a refund.
The simulator distinguishes between the general tax base (employment and property income) and the savings tax base (capital gains and investment income). Each base is taxed at different progressive rates: general from 19% to 47%, savings from 19% to 28%.
Reductions for employment income apply automatically for earnings below €21,000. Pension plan contributions reduce the general tax base up to a maximum of €1,500 per year. Personal and family minimum allowances are subtracted from the gross tax.
Enter your income, gains, contributions, family status and withholdings to get your return result: general tax base, savings base, net tax and the amount to pay or be refunded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who must file a Spanish tax return?
Generally, those with employment income above €22,000 from a single payer (or €15,000 from multiple payers), capital income above €1,600, or capital gains above €1,000.
What is the savings tax base (base del ahorro)?
It includes capital gains from asset transfers and investment income. It is taxed at rates from 19% to 28% in progressive brackets.
How do pension plan contributions reduce tax?
Individual pension plan contributions reduce the general tax base, with a maximum limit of €1,500 per year (or 30% of net employment income, whichever is lower).
What does a negative result mean?
A negative result means the tax authority refunds the difference between withholdings already paid and the net tax due. A positive result means you owe the difference.
